This November, the rainy season finally graced Temanggung! The temperature cooled as ETA Lucy Faust went on a school Islamic pilgrimage, judged an English competition in the dorm, and celebrated Thanksgiving in English Club and with a Friendsgiving meal. But most of all, ETA Lucy was in the classroom, trying her best to keep lessons simultaneously fun and informative as the mid-year tests loomed.
A highlight for Lucy was completing her first Community Engagement Project (CEP). She took all eighty-two dorm students, half of whom had never been swimming before, to Pikatan Waterpark, the local swimming pool. She taught the dorm students basic swimming skills to increase their comfort and safety in the water. Throughout the CEP, the students learned how to breathe in the water blowing bubbles and learned how to kick across the pool on their stomachs. Even better, they were learning and laughing alongside their friends. One student had nervously started off the day clutching the side of the pool and came up to ETA Lucy at the end of the day claiming she’d had “the best day ever!” It was a great day for ETA Lucy too.
Lucy Faust is currently teaching at MAN Temanggung, Central Java.
