ETA Sheldon Ruby is not always aware of everything that happens at his school, even when it is related to his own classes. Earlier this year, Sheldon and his co-teacher, Pak Andi, taught a lesson about procedural text. Since they taught this lesson together, students have been giving presentations on procedure texts that they have found and executed in small groups.
When Sheldon got to one of his classes with Pak Andi in April, he was curious to see a strange plastic water bottle with an electric wire sticking out of the bottom. He knew where this invention was likely headed and was slightly concerned that he was going to see his students playing with electricity in front of him. His mother’s lifelong warnings against this were in the back of his mind.
However, his students confidently went to the front of the room and began presenting on how they created a light out of recycled materials, telling the class the procedure they followed to get to the final project. Sheldon was delighted to see the light worked and snapped a quick photo so he could share it with his friends and family back in the United States.
Sheldon Ruby is currently teaching at SMA Sisingamangaraja, Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra
