ETA Michael Walsh enjoyed revisiting notable locations in his site after the end of his first semester teaching at SMKN 1 Tana Toraja.
He was reminded of the beauty of Tana Toraja and its unique culture by visiting Lolai, a scenic, mountainous overlook that sits above the clouds with his sitemate ETA Angela Zhu.
They also explored Londa, a famous network of caves that are home to hundreds of graves that contain the physical remains of Torajan descendants.
The spiritual beliefs and unique relationship Torajans have to death are pertinent throughout the opinions of the students ETA Michael teaches.
Having time to learn more about these beliefs and customs through travel within his site will help him continue to incorporate the ideas of Toraja in his English classrooms during the second semester.
Michael Walsh is currently teaching at SMKN 1 Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi.
