To include the Super Bowl in English club, ETA Kate Morrow thought it would be best to share the rules of the game with students. Instead of tackle or touch football, however, students at SMKN 3 Pangkalpinang played vocabulary football!
Luckily, the afternoon sun was low enough in the sky that there was a large shady area to play in, perfectly set up for end zones and the building’s pillars serving as yard lines. After a comedic solo attempt at showing an example of how the game is played and a lot of explaining, students were ready to play! With each catch, the offensive team had to correctly use a vocabulary word in a sentence in order to be allowed to start the play. Just like football, each team had four attempts from the “line of scrimmage” before the ball was turned over to the other team. After a few practice plays, students began to get pretty competitive and were excited to think about different strategies of play as well as mastering their sentences. After lots of laughs and a few great plays, students finished the time with a final score of 2-2.
