March 2024 Edition
Welcome to the March edition of the Fulbright ETA Monthly Highlights. During March, as Indonesian students enter the midterm or school exam month and Ramadan, many ETAs found exciting ways to engage students and communities around them, from wrapping up their Community Engagement Projects and final English lesson this month before the testing and Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) weeks to joining cultural events and the local tradition of Ramadan. Celebrating Jogja: A Day of Festivities at SMKN 1 Cangkringan
March 13, 2024, marked the 269th anniversary of The Special Region of Yogyakarta, commonly called “Jogja.” ETA Parker Raybourne’s placement at SMKN 1 Cangkringan in North Jogja gave Parker an active role in the day’s festivities. Reflecting on Eight Months of Learning
In the final week before the Eid Al Fitr break, Grade 10 and 11 students, alongside ETA Molly Gleason, wrapped up grammar lessons. Amidst this, Molly and her students wrote heartfelt notes to each other, expressing gratitude and reflecting on their progress over the past eight months. The Charm of Indonesian Dance and Poetry: A Podcast by SMAN 3 Banjarbaru English Club
The English club set out to do a new, adventurous project – to create their podcast to appreciate Indonesian culture, heritage, and arts. In March, ETA Natalie Suh held a workshop for SMK English Teachers across Banjarmasin. The one-hour workshop was focused on activities and resources teachers could use to make English learning in the classroom more fun and engaging for their students. Throughout the last month, ETA Allison Gross has had the privilege of attending several evening prayers and breakfasts at her school, SMAN 1 Sedayu.
