Nongkrong Nongkrong post WORDS

WORDS Competition was an intensive and rewarding experience for all participants. Students worked incredibly hard, practicing every day leading up to the event. They had created various stories on the theme of “Dreams,” some personal and some with an abstract meaning. Regardless, all of them were impressive and creative. On January 18, the students showcased their stories at the 2024 Storytelling Competition at SMAN 4 Jambi.

In ETA Owais Mahmood’s eyes, all of them were winners. Unfortunately, only one student would accompany him to Jakarta in February, and to show appreciation to all participants, Owais took them out to lunch two days later. He told them, “terserah” (“up to you” in Indonesian), and they did not hesitate.

It was by far one of the most entertaining and enjoyable experiences for all. They talked, nongkrong nongkrong (hang out), and had an amazing time while eating lunch. Apart from cultural exchange, this is what Fulbright is all about. Meeting people, having a good time, and being open to learning from others.

Owais Mahmood is currently teaching at SMAN 4 Jambi, Jambi.
